The collaboration with award winning Director and writer Qasim Basir, I was hired to take on to the role of director of aerial cinematography for the award-winning film "To Live and Die and Live", which was accepted to premiere in the NEXT category from 15,856 submissions. The film stands out as a transformative experience that not only challenged my creative approach but also nurtured my artistic vision. Together, Qasim and myself along with his team spent days and nights shot after shot all weaving through the streets to not miss the perfect lighting over the city of Detroit illustrating the intricate layers of the narrative by employing expansive aerial shots that added depth and dimension to the film's emotional resonance as well as experimental viewpoints with unconventional lens choices. Qasim's direction inspired me to experiment with new techniques and viewpoints, turning our conceptual discussions into powerful visual sequences that left a lasting impression on a total of 423,234 in-person and online viewers. The interplay between our unique styles enriched the film, enhancing its thematic elements while beautifully highlighting the stunning city of Detroit in a way that has never before been captured. Shortly after exiting the bustling premiere in Park City, Utah, actor Omari Hardwick shared a favorite aerial scene with my mother and I which is a transition and pivotal point in the movie. I was honored to get a "pat on the back" from such an accomplished actor.

Unraveling with Sonya Clark and Cranbrook Art Museum
In our collaboration with Sonya Clark and the Cranbrook Art Museum on the “Unraveling” project, Ferris played a pivotal role as the director, guiding the film with deep intentionality and respect for the profound significance of the work. Ferris’s direction was centered on capturing the quiet power and symbolic depth of the act of unraveling the Confederate flag, thread by thread.
Ferris’s approach to directing was meticulous and thoughtful. Every decision—from the choice of lenses to the framing of each shot—was made to ensure that the film would reflect the gravity and emotion inherent in the process. The focus was on stillness, capturing the deliberate, gentle movements of each participant’s hands. This stillness was intentional, allowing the act itself to take center stage, speaking volumes through its quiet simplicity.
Under Ferris’s direction, the film became more than a visual document; it transformed into a reflective experience. Ferris ensured that the film conveyed the serious yet peaceful resolve of the participants, who represented all ages and races. Each person moved with a deep desire to honor the past while fostering unity, and Ferris’s direction highlighted this collective intent, creating a narrative that was both powerful and serene.
Ferris’s role in directing was not just about capturing moments, but about crafting a visual narrative that would resonate deeply with viewers. The film invites the audience to witness the quiet momentum of progress and the shared resolve to elevate relationships across all races, uniting as one beautiful human race. Through this intentional and thoughtful direction, Ferris helped create a film that stands as a testament to the power of unity and the transformative journey of letting go, thread by thread.

In high school, I was asked to participate on behalf of Leland Public schools to create a video for a statewide contest organized by Apple, where students were asked to work with the school to pitch the best reason for their school to receive new iPads. My video was selected as the winning entry, and as a result, Leland Public Schools was awarded $50,000 worth of iPads. This experience was a rewarding opportunity to use my budding skills in video production to support my school and contribute to the community.
